TRUTH & TABLE

A gathering of SDB Chicago in Rogers Park

People often have questions when they first hear about Truth and Table. That is normal. We are not your typical church, and we do not try to be. Everything we do is built on simple relationships, honest conversations, an openness to tough questions and trust that at the end of every journey for truth lies Jesus Christ. These common questions will help you understand who we are, what matters to us, and how we walk with people as they discover who Jesus is and who they are becoming.

How do I know if Truth and Table is for me?

Truth and Table is different from a traditional church. Our mission is to build a kingdom community where humans truly flourish. That community is rooted in the will of God revealed in scripture and planted by God where He knows they will grow.

We do not offer traditional services or programs. We focus on simple relationships and small gatherings where life, faith, and real conversations help you know Jesus, become like Jesus, and reveal Jesus in your world.

If you are looking for a traditional church experience with services, studies, and programs, what we do may feel unfamiliar. And that is completely okay. We know we are not for everyone. We are happy to introduce you to a few local churches that love people and may feel more familiar to what you are used to.

I am not religious. Is it still for me?

Yes. Truth and Table is a safe place to explore Jesus without pressure or expectations. You do not need to know the right words or have everything figured out. We don’t either. You can bring your questions, your doubts, and your story. We meet you there.

I have a lot of questions about faith, Jesus, and the Bible. Will I feel out of place?

Not at all. You are exactly who we are here for. We practice theology in community. Bring your questions and we will seek answers together. You do not have to be knowledgeable or experienced. You get to start right where you are.

I do not see a worship service time. How do I get involved?

Everything we do is through relationships. The first step is simply reaching out and starting a conversation.

Where do you meet? Is there anything online?

We meet in Rogers Park, Chicago in the places where people actually live their lives. That might be over coffee at a local cafe, before an event in the local park, or a living room. We feel that the best connection happens in person and so we rarely meet online. The location is never the point. The connection is what matters.

What does a typical gathering look like?

It looks like people being real with one another. Sometimes that is four or five people around a dining room table, a living room filled with board games and friends, or a few of us at a coffee shop seeking the truth of Jesus revealed in scripture. There is always food and often questions.

It is simple, honest, and relational. These gatherings give us space to practice the simple principles and patterns of following Jesus together in the flow of everyday life. No stage. No program. No pressure. Just people helping one another follow Jesus.

How does Truth and Table help me discover my identity and purpose?

We believe Jesus reveals your true identity and calling. In Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Being rooted in Jesus allows us to be built up into the people that God created us to be. There is not a program or process for this. Rather it is our daily relationship with Jesus and encouragement from others that allows Him to guide and grow us. Through Jesus we are all brought into true human flourishing.

What is the first step I should take?

Just say hello. Send a message and tell us a little about yourself. No pressure. No expectations. Just a relationship.

Didn't you used to be SDB Chicago?

We still are. We just felt that Truth and Table is better reflection of how we gather as a community. If you came here expecting the old site you can still get to it here.

Truth and table is an expression of faith in the Seventh Day Baptist denomination.
